Now that lowrider arte has arrived, we can safely say gone are the days of placing a decal; (or if you would like to call it a sticker) ,on your vehicle. Instead, call in an artist.

Not just any artist but one who is skilled with an airbrush. Whilst looking at all these wonderful drawings, I have come to see them as pieces of art. Each painting tells a story of its owner and the vehicle that he owns.

They are almost a pictorial genealogy of the lowrider’s owner. There origins, meaning where they were born, the owners religious affiliations. Then their family ties and so on.

A museum of art is what these vehicles look like when parked up. Whether it is up town on a late night or at a show in the park some place. This lowrider arte is a must see.

The colors in these lowrider show displays are vivid and vibrant. They would make any tattooist green with envy. In fact I think some of these would make good tattoos and vice versa. A tattooist’s medium is ink. There can’t be all that much difference between an airbrush and the apparatus that’s used for tattooing.

If bright colors are not your thing relax. Black lined drawings can easily be done. They can draw shadows to go with them. Like a tattooist the airbrush artist has a selection of different types of tips. These give a variation of color spread and different types of lines.

What if one fine line or several are required? Better to sort all that out now rather than when the artist has finished… If the drawing requires a thick black line or indeed something wider. . .Or what about some kind of border?

This is where you need to make sure you have a professional drawing all over your lowrider car. If you have lowrider models let the artist work on them first. Ask her or him for references. The names and contacts of their previous customers. Check them out. Find out what people are saying then make an informed decision.

Once you’ve decided who’s going to paint your picture. The artist needs to be contacted and supplied with sketches and your color scheme. Be specific then leave him or her to get on with it. You might even have to leave your lowrider vehicle at their work shop.

It may mean a few sleepless nights but well worth it when you see all your hard work come to fruit. Your wonderful sketches oozing life all over the canvas which is your lowrider car.
